Day 01: Yangon – Putao arrival

Depart from Yangon airport to Putao airport on a domestic flight. Upon arrival at Putao airport, our representative will meet you and transfer you to the guest house.Putao is located north of Myitkyina, the capital city of Kachin State. The weather is cold year-round, with snow-peaked mountains. Different ethnic minority tribes can be seen in the area. Putao is a great starting point for adventurous trekking and is the nearest town to Mt. Khakhaborazi (5889 meters), the highest mountain in Myanmar and Southeast Asia. Friendly hill tribe people come to sell goods at the market.Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Putao Lodge

 

Day 02: Putao – Shangaung – Wasandum (jeep/trek)

In the early morning, take a 10-minute walk to Putao market. Visit the local market, which is busy with buyers and sellers from local ethnic tribes. After breakfast, depart to upper Shangaung by truck or jeep, depending on the group size. The ride will take about 1 hour (17 km) on a rugged road. Shangaung consists of two separate villages inhabited by the Lisu and Rawan tribes.Your adventure begins as we get off the jeep and start the trek to Wasandum (approx. 6 hours, 20 km) through Mt. Shangaung (4468 ft, 1362 meters). Enjoy a packed lunch on the way. The first 10 km of the trail will be a steep ascent to the top of Mt. Shangaung, then the trail descends all the way to Wasandum. This journey will test your endurance as you ascend from 1060 meters to 1362 meters and then descend back to 860 meters.Wasandum is a small Rawan village situated by Namro creek. Check-in at the guest house. Those who wish to wash up can go to Namro creek, which has crystal clear water. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the Wasandum guest house in dormitory style.

 

Day 03: Wasandum – Awadum – Kalang – Ziyadum (Trek)

After breakfast, embark on a journey to Ziyadum through relatively flat land with a few gentle ups and downs. Your adventure begins by crossing Namro creek to reach Awadum (approx. 3 hours, 7.4 km). Awadum, a village primarily inhabited by the Lisu tribe, is divided by a vast paddy field.
Next, traverse the suspension bridge spanning Namlang creek to arrive at Kalang (approx. 1 ½ hours, 4.8 km). After enjoying lunch, continue your trek through deep, lush evergreen forests to Ziyadum (approx. 2 hours, 6.4 km).Ziyadum, the northwesternmost and final frontier village in the Putao region, is predominantly home to the Rawan tribes. In the evening, visit Ziya creek for a mesmerizing sunset view, where the blazing snow-capped mountains to the west cast a magical glow over the gently flowing creek.Enjoy a delightful dinner and an overnight stay at a Ziyadum village house, surrounded by the enchanting beauty of this remote paradise.

 

Day 04: Ziyadum – Chaungsone – thitpingyi (Trek)

After breakfast, we will begin our trek to Chaungsone (approx. 3 hours, 9.6 km). First, cross Phangran creek via a suspension bridge and trek through evergreen forests with a few gentle ascents and descents. After lunch, continue trekking across another suspension bridge over Namya creek. We will then proceed until we reach Thitpingyi camp (4800 ft, 1460 meters above sea level), which will take about 2 hours (3.2 km). Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.

 

Day 05: Lower Thitpingyi – Upper Thitpingyi – Khantautmyit (Trek)

After breakfast, we begin our uphill trek to upper Thitpingyi camp (approx. 1 hour, 2.5 km) along the mule trail. Then, continue trekking to Khantautmyit camp (8500 ft, 2575 meters above sea level), which will take approximately 6 hours over a distance of 4.8 km. Our jungle trek involves steep ascents and descents along the narrow shoulder of a smaller cliff, where we will see various types of birds and flowers as we pass through different types of forests. After a long trek, we will arrive at Khantautmyit, one of the most beautiful spots with large trees and colorful Rhododendron bushes. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Khantautmyit camp.

 

Day 06: Khantautmyit – Snow Line (Trek)

After breakfast, get ready for today’s trek to the snow line at an elevation of approximately 10,000 ft (3050 meters), which will take about 4 hours (6.4 km), depending on the location of our campsite. The trek is challenging, with narrow paths, but the Rhododendrons create a stunning backdrop. There are three different campsites along the snow line, and we will choose the best spot for our overnight stay based on the snowfall conditions. Enjoy dinner and prepare for the cold weather, as temperatures can drop to freezing during the night.
 

Day 07: Snow line – Mt. Phongun summit – Khantautmyit (Trek)

After breakfast, we begin our trek to the summit of Mt. Phongun, standing at 11,920 ft (3635 meters). Though the distance is just over 3 km, it may take us anywhere from 3 to 7 hours, depending on the snow conditions. If the weather is clear, you may be able to see as far as the lands of India to the west and take in the breathtaking views all around. We’ll have a lunch stop at the camp before returning to Khantautmyit camp. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the camp, reflecting on the incredible journey to the summit.

 

Day 08: Khantautmyit – Thitpingyi (Trek)

After breakfast, take some time to relax and soak in the beautiful surroundings and breathtaking scenery. We’ll have an early lunch before trekking back to Thitpingyi camp. The trail features a series of ascents and descents, with constantly changing flora and fauna and stunning views. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Thitpingyi camp.

 

Day 09: Thitpingyi – Chaungsone – Ziyadum(Trek)

After breakfast, begin the trek back to Ziyadum, passing through Chaungsone camp along a pleasant and easy downhill mule trail.
Cross Namya creek via a suspension bridge, and follow the trek route along Phangran creek.After several rugged nights camping in the jungle, returning to Ziyadum will be a great pleasure, offering the comforts of a hot shower and a warm bed at the Ziyadum guest house. Relax in the afternoon and celebrate with a dinner over a bonfire, enjoying the comfortable amenities of the guest house.Reflect on the adventures and experiences of the trek, surrounded by the tranquility and beauty of Ziyadum village.

 

Day 10: Ziyadum – Wasandum (Trek)

After breakfast, take in the morning at the guest house, savoring the natural scenic views surrounding you. After an early lunch, say goodbye to the locals and begin your return journey to Awadum. Cross suspension bridges and traverse through beautiful evergreen paths.Enjoy dinner and spend the night at Wasandum guest house, reminiscing about the memorable experiences and encounters with the local culture during your trek.
 

Day 11: Wasandum – Shangaung – Putao (Trek/jeep)

After breakfast, leave the wilderness behind and begin the trek back uphill towards the plateau of Mt. Shangaung. Descend through Shangaung until reaching the point where our jeep awaits to transport us back to Putao. We’ll pack lunch for the journey.Upon arrival in Putao, gather for a farewell dinner with our group members, including leaders and porters, to commemorate the unique experiences shared over the past few days in this remarkable part of the world. Overnight at Putao Lodge, reflecting on the adventures and friendships formed during our expedition.

 

Day 12: Putao – Yangon departure

After enjoying your final breakfast in Putao, take some time to explore the area with recommendations from your guide. Discover local markets, cultural sites, or take a leisurely stroll to soak in the surroundings.Later, head to Putao airport for your flight back to Yangon, marking the end of this unique and memorable experience.
